In our journey of faith, we often face moments where our human understanding simply isn't enough. When scaffolding collapses beneath us, where do we turn? Proverbs 3:5-6 offers profound guidance: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
Trusting God with "all your heart" calls for complete surrender—not partial commitment. It's not saying, "Lord, I trust you with most of my heart" or "I'll give you control of this part of my life, but keep these areas for myself." God asks for total abandonment to His ways.
This complete trust begins with a fundamental understanding: God is absolutely trustworthy. Before we can trust Him with everything, we must settle in our hearts that He is worthy of that trust.
"If we can trust Him with our eternal salvation, why do we struggle to trust Him with paying our bills or resolving workplace situations?"
One of the most challenging aspects of faith is trusting that God is present when all evidence suggests He's absent. Our human understanding is limited—we're all experts in some areas while completely ignorant in others. But God knows everything.
There will be times when you cannot see or feel God's presence. Your emotions may tell you He's abandoned you, but His Word promises: "I will never leave you nor forsake you." When you trust God with all your heart, you choose to believe His Word over your feelings.
As Isaiah described the Messiah's anointing, Jesus didn't make judgments based on what His eyes saw or ears heard, but through righteous judgment. Similarly, when we're born again by the Spirit, we gain the ability to see beyond our human senses into kingdom reality.
To move beyond human understanding and access spiritual understanding, consider these practices:
The path to big breakthroughs often follows small steps of obedience. When we acknowledge God in all our ways—even the seemingly insignificant ones—He directs our paths.
These small steps are training grounds. As Scripture teaches, "If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones" (Luke 16:10). Being consistent and faithful in everyday matters positions us for greater things.
When you fully trust God, you trust Him with the results. You faithfully obey, then place the consequences in His hands. This removes tremendous pressure—all we need to do is what God says, and He takes responsibility for the outcome.
"I'll be responsible for the consequences of your obedience to me."
This week, identify areas where you've been leaning on your own understanding rather than trusting God completely. Perhaps it's your finances, a relationship, your career, or your health. Choose one area and practice these steps:
Declare God's trustworthiness - Speak aloud: "God, I declare that you are trustworthy in this situation."
Acknowledge His presence - Even when you don't feel Him, affirm that He is with you.
Take one small step of obedience - What is God asking you to do in this area? Take that step, however small.
Release the outcome - Pray: "Lord, I'm trusting you with the results of my obedience."
Questions to consider:
Remember, God's ways are higher than our ways. When we trust Him completely, we step into a supernatural lifestyle directed by our Father who promises to make our paths straight.
