Ephesians 5:17-21

The command to be filled with the Holy Spirit in Ephesians 5:18 is written in the present tense, indicating this should be an ongoing practice in believers' lives, not a one-time event. While self-help principles can lead to moral living, without the Spirit's movement, we miss the fullness of what God created us for. Recent revival movements remind us what happens when the Holy Spirit moves freely: authentic worship emerges, lives transform, and God's presence becomes tangible.Throughout Acts, we see believers filled with the Spirit experiencing specific evidences: speaking in tongues, prophesying, boldness in sharing God's Word, overflowing joy, and the manifestation of spiritual gifts. Even seasoned ministers with outward success can experience spiritual hunger, recognizing a disconnect between the power displayed in Scripture and their current experience. God often uses unexpected people to lead believers into deeper spiritual experiences, challenging our preconceptions about spiritual leadership. The practical invitation is to examine whether we're experiencing the fullness God offers or settling for less. We should identify barriers preventing us from being filled with the Spirit and consider how our lives, families, and communities might change if we lived in this fullness. The simple wisdom remains: 'If there's more and it's God, it'd be good.' Why would we choose anything less than what Jesus offers?
