The judgment seat of Christ, known as the Bema, represents a crucial truth that every believer must understand. While our salvation is eternally secure through grace alone and not by works, there remains an important accountability for how we live as God's children. The Bema is specifically for believers who have built their lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ, where each person will individually give an account to God for their stewardship.According to Scripture, our works will be tested by fire, revealing two distinct categories. Works done with pure motives, in God's strength, and for His glory are represented by gold, silver, and precious stones that endure the testing. Conversely, works done with wrong motives, in our own strength, or for selfish gain are like wood, hay, and straw that burn up under examination. The remarkable truth is that even if all our works are consumed, we remain saved because our salvation rests on Christ's finished work, not our performance. This understanding should fundamentally change how we approach our Christian life. Rather than serving out of fear or obligation, we can serve from a place of love and gratitude, knowing our eternal destiny is secure. The Bema motivates us to live with eternal perspective, examine our heart motives, maintain our first love for Jesus, and build our lives with materials that will endure. Various crowns and rewards await faithful believers, potentially including increased capacity to bear God's glory and different levels of responsibility in eternity.
