A Simple Key To Being Guided By God
A sermon from Grace House Church in Florence, Alabama, by Pastor Eddie Lawrence. Based on John 10:27, this message provides three practical actions to help you discern God's voice and walk in His direction.
Discerning God's voice can be challenging, particularly when we're unsure whether our desires align with His will or when we question if opposition comes from the enemy. However, believers have the promise from John 10:27 that Jesus' sheep hear His voice, and He knows how to communicate with each person individually.
The foundation for divine guidance comes from Proverbs 3:5-6, which instructs us to trust in the Lord completely, avoid leaning on our own understanding, and acknowledge Him in all our ways. The Hebrew word for acknowledge, yada, speaks of intimate relational knowledge rather than mere intellectual awareness. This means maintaining conscious recognition that God is present with us, in us, and for us at all times.
Being guided by God isn't about following religious formulas but about developing a relationship with our heavenly Father. The Holy Spirit whispers Abba in our spirits, reminding us of our identity as children of God. Most often, God's voice sounds like our own thoughts, but we learn to identify His promptings in our spirit. We must avoid presumption by seeking God's counsel rather than relying on past experiences or obvious circumstances. Like Jesus, who only did what He saw the Father doing, we should learn to discern where God is moving and join Him in His work. This requires maintaining conversational companionship with the Holy Spirit throughout the day, staying tuned into His frequency like a radio receiving signals that already exist in the atmosphere.
