The Dream Dashers
Podcast message by Pastor Eddie Lawrence from Grace House Church in Florence, Alabama.
When life unravels and failure feels defining, the pull to retreat to what is familiar can be overwhelming. Peter knew this struggle deeply. Despite walking closely with Jesus and receiving a direct call to build the church, he denied Christ three times on the night of His arrest. Even after witnessing the risen Savior, something remained unsettled in Peter, and he made a decision that would set the stage for one of the most powerful restoration moments in all of Scripture. He went back to fishing. He returned to the only identity he had known before Jesus called him, and he caught nothing all night.
This is one of the enemy's most effective strategies against believers. When we stumble, shame and confusion whisper that we never really had what we thought we had, pulling us back toward old habits and old ways of coping. But God, in His faithfulness, will sometimes frustrate those efforts because He loves us too much to let us settle for a lesser version of the life He has called us to. Old patterns may feel comfortable, but comfort is not the same as purpose.
Morning came, and with it, Jesus appeared on the shore. He had already prepared a fire and a meal before the disciples even recognized Him. That is a picture of His faithfulness. He is working on your behalf even when you cannot sense His presence. By that fire, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Him, directly mirroring the three denials at another charcoal fire. Each confession was met with a renewed call to purpose. Feed My lambs. Tend My sheep. Feed My sheep. God did not waste Peter's worst moment. He redeemed it. The gifts and callings of God are without repentance, and He has not revoked your purpose because of your failure. He is a God of restoration, and morning is coming.
