Show Me Your Glory
A guest sermon from Grace House Church in Florence, Alabama, by Eric Swithin. Drawing from Ecclesiastes 2:11 and the life of Moses, this message explores the deep human need for God's presence and the pursuit of true satisfaction.
The parable of the treasure hidden in the field reveals why worldly achievements leave us feeling empty despite our success. Jesus described the kingdom of heaven as treasure so valuable that a man joyfully sold everything he owned to purchase the field containing it. This treasure represents an infinitely valuable relationship with Jesus, the King of the kingdom.
Solomon, history's wealthiest and wisest man worth an estimated 1.3 trillion dollars today, provides a sobering testimony about worldly satisfaction. Despite having unlimited resources, the finest possessions, and every pleasure imaginable, he declared it all meaningless and like chasing after the wind. His conclusion was profound: you cannot enjoy life apart from God. Worldly things act like false thirst quenchers that actually increase our thirst rather than satisfy it.
The solution lies not in accumulating more knowledge about God, but in developing a genuine relationship with Him. Statistics reveal that even pastors average only five minutes of daily prayer, while typical Christians pray just one minute per day. This suggests many have religion without relationship, head knowledge without heart connection. Moses exemplifies the proper approach - despite meeting with God face to face as a friend, he still hungered for more of God's presence and boldly asked to see His glory. God honored this request, showing that there is always more of Him available to those who seek Him wholeheartedly. True satisfaction comes through seeking His face before His hand, meeting with Him until genuine encounter occurs, and reading His Word to hear His voice personally.
