Fear has a strategic way of appearing at the most pivotal moments in our lives, precisely when God is calling us to step into His greater purposes. This battle between fear and faith becomes particularly intense during major life transitions and decisions. The enemy uses three forms of resistance to keep us from our God-given destiny: internal resistance from our fallen nature, external resistance from the world, and infernal resistance through spiritual warfare.
The biblical account of the twelve spies provides a powerful illustration of fear's devastating impact. When Israel reached the Promised Land, ten spies returned with a fear-filled report about giants and fortified cities, while Joshua and Caleb responded with faith, declaring they were well able to overcome. The congregation chose to believe the fear report, resulting in an entire generation dying in the wilderness instead of entering their inheritance. Fear operated as a false prophet, predicting defeat before the battle even began and causing the people to focus entirely on obstacles while forgetting God's presence and power.
Overcoming fear requires remembering seven essential truths about our relationship with God. We must remember who God says we are - not grasshoppers, but children of the Most High. We need to recall what He has already delivered us from, recognize that He is for us, understand that He goes before us preparing the way, know that He is with us in every challenge, realize that He lives within us through the Holy Spirit, and remember that He is coming for us. When we shift our focus from the giants in our situations to these unchanging truths about God's character and promises, we can walk confidently in faith rather than being paralyzed by fear.
